Duluth, Minnesota – Storms and stifling humidity are about to grip northeastern Minnesota, with Duluth in the crosshairs of heavy rain, beach hazards, and weekend thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rounds of showers and thunderstorms will arrive Friday, June 27, and continue through Tuesday, July 1. The first storm threat begins Friday evening with a 50% chance of rain and could escalate into severe weather Saturday night, featuring large hail and damaging winds.

Pine County into northwest Wisconsin faces a 25% chance of flooding Friday into Saturday. Gusty onshore winds Thursday have already triggered rip current risks at beaches along Minnesota and Wisconsin Points, where a Beach Hazard Statement may be issued.

Saturday’s forecast calls for highs near 71°F with thunderstorms likely by evening. Another round of intense storms is expected Saturday night into early Sunday, with localized heavy rain likely to impact low-lying roads, especially along the I-35 corridor.

By Sunday, conditions remain stormy with highs in the low 80s. A strong heat index returns by Monday, pushing “feels like” temperatures into the mid-90s. Heat Advisories may follow, especially inland.

Residents should avoid swimming at unguarded beaches, limit outdoor time during peak heat hours, and secure outdoor items ahead of strong winds. Skywarn spotters are asked to report flooding and rainfall totals.

More thunderstorms are expected Monday and Tuesday, capping a stretch of unstable summer weather.
