Minneapolis, Minnesota – Storm-weary Minnesotans won’t get much relief this week as more rain and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the region Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, showers and thunderstorms will redevelop Thursday afternoon and continue through the evening. Additional rainfall totals between a half inch and one inch are possible in central and southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, with localized flash flooding near low-lying roadways like I-94 and I-35.
The storm risk remains high into Saturday night, with strong storms possible late Saturday into Sunday. Roads may become hazardous, especially in areas hit hard by Wednesday’s downpours. Residents should avoid driving through flooded streets, check sump pumps, and charge devices in case of power outages.
Drivers on I-90 near Rochester and I-35 through southern Minnesota should anticipate slow travel and possible detours due to ponding water and reduced visibility. Outdoor events and travel plans could be disrupted through Sunday.
Although Friday brings a break with partly sunny skies and highs near 78°F, the weekend will see another round of unstable weather. Conditions may not fully dry out until early next week.
⚠️ Storm alerts remain in effect through Sunday. Monitor local updates and stay weather-aware.
