Residents of the Twin Cities can look forward to a pleasant shift in weather beginning Sunday, March 9, as milder temperatures and extended daylight hours mark the onset of spring.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 54°F (12°C) and a low around 35°F (2°C). This warming trend continues into Monday, with temperatures reaching a high near 60°F (16°C) and a low around 29°F (-2°C). Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 42°F (6°C) and a low around 29°F (-2°C).

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9, requiring clocks to move forward one hour. This adjustment results in later sunsets, providing more evening daylight. For example, on March 7, sunrise in Minneapolis was at 6:39 a.m., and sunset at 6:09 p.m. Post time change, sunrise shifts to 7:35 a.m., and sunset to 7:11 p.m.

Residents should remember to adjust manual clocks before bed on Saturday, March 8. Additionally, it’s an excellent time to check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they’re functioning properly.

To ease the transition into daylight saving time, experts suggest gradually adjusting sleep schedules. Going to bed and waking up 15-20 minutes earlier each day can help align your internal clock with the new time. Morning light exposure also aids in this adjustment.

Five-Day Forecast for the Twin Cities:

• Saturday, March 8: Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 49°F (9°C). Low around 31°F (-1°C).

• Sunday, March 9: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54°F (12°C). Low around 35°F (2°C).

• Monday, March 10: Sunny, with a high near 60°F (16°C). Low around 29°F (-2°C).

These favorable weather conditions, combined with extended daylight, provide an excellent opportunity for outdoor activities.
