Duluth, MN – Minnesota residents should brace for a mix of severe weather this weekend, with thunderstorms, heavy rain, and snow expected across the region. A strong system moving through the state will bring storms tonight, followed by a sharp temperature drop and wintery precipitation into next week.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms overnight into Saturday morning may produce hail up to penny size and winds reaching 40 mph. Localized flooding is possible due to heavy rainfall. By Saturday evening, temperatures will plummet, causing rain to transition into sleet and snow, increasing the risk of icy roads.

The North Shore region will see wind gusts between 45-50 mph on Saturday night, with a Wind Advisory in effect. Several inches of snow are expected west of a line from Brainerd to International Falls. Rapid freezing may lead to hazardous travel conditions on major highways, including I-35 and U.S. Highway 53.

Looking ahead, Sunday will bring sunshine but breezy conditions, with highs in the mid-30s. Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, will be partly sunny with a high of 51°F. A chance of snow returns Tuesday night, with colder temperatures lingering through midweek.

Residents should prepare for sudden weather changes and check for updates on road conditions.
