Minnesota – A major winter storm is set to impact the region this weekend, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel conditions. Drivers along I-29 and surrounding areas should prepare for low visibility and icy roads starting Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service, blizzard conditions are expected across central and northern Minnesota from late Friday through Saturday evening. Snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches are likely, with isolated areas receiving up to 8 inches. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph, making travel hazardous.
Saturday morning will see widespread snow, with the heaviest accumulation between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Near-whiteout conditions may develop, especially in open areas. By the afternoon, skies may begin to clear, but strong winds will continue to create blowing and drifting snow.
Sunday will bring a break in precipitation, with partly sunny skies and a high near 29°F. However, light snow chances return Sunday night into Monday, with additional minor accumulations possible.
Residents should secure outdoor items, limit travel during peak storm hours, and check road conditions at 511MN.org. Power outages are possible due to high winds, so keeping emergency supplies on hand is advised.
Stay updated as conditions evolve, and prepare for significant winter impacts through the weekend.
