Chanhassen, Minn. – Communities along the Minnesota River remain under flood warnings as water levels continue to rise downstream, even as upstream gauges begin to fall. The National Weather Service says multiple stretches of the river are above flood stage, threatening low-lying roads, storm sewers, and nearby homes.
According to the Weather Service, the river at Jordan reached 25.2 feet Sunday night and is expected to crest at 25.4 feet Monday before falling below flood stage by Thursday afternoon. At Henderson, water levels have hit 732 feet, steady through Tuesday, with impacts to agricultural buildings and residences near the river.
Further west, Morton is seeing moderate flooding, with Fleischer Road already under water and bypass pumping underway to protect storm sewers. At Granite Falls, the river crested late Sunday near 885.6 feet, with floodwaters spilling into alleys near the footbridge. Montevideo remains under warning as well, with water levels still above 15 feet.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, where most flood-related deaths occur. Emergency officials stress that even shallow floodwater can damage vehicles or sweep them away.
Warnings remain in place into late week, with conditions expected to improve gradually as the river recedes.
