Duluth, MN – Drivers across northern Minnesota should prepare for dangerous travel conditions late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, as forecasters warn of widespread dense fog.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, fog will begin forming around 9 p.m. Tuesday and continue through 11 a.m. Wednesday. The heaviest impacts are expected between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., when widespread dense fog will significantly reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile. Patchy dense fog may also affect northwest Wisconsin, including the South Shore region.

Meteorologists caution that rapid visibility drops could make driving hazardous during the morning commute. The weather service recommends slowing down, using low-beam headlights, and allowing extra travel time.

The advisory covers a large portion of northern Minnesota, stretching from International Falls and Hibbing through Duluth and into the South Shore area. Commuters in cities including Grand Rapids, Brainerd, and Cloquet should plan for delays and exercise caution.

Fog is expected to gradually lift by late Wednesday morning, but drivers are urged to remain alert until conditions improve.
