Grand Forks, ND – Drivers across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota should use caution early Thursday morning as areas of dense fog reduce visibility in parts of the Red River Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks.

The fog is developing under clear skies and calm winds, with visibility in some locations dropping below a half mile. Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as temperatures rise and the fog lifts.

The affected area includes Fargo, Grand Forks, Moorhead, Crookston, Ada, Warren, and Detroit Lakes, as well as communities across Towner, Cavalier, Cass, and Richland Counties in North Dakota and Clay, Polk, and Otter Tail Counties in Minnesota.

Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel. Visibility may vary quickly from one stretch of road to another, particularly along river valleys and rural routes.

No additional weather hazards are expected later Thursday, with skies remaining mostly clear through the afternoon.
