Fargo, ND – A wide swath of eastern North Dakota and western to north-central Minnesota will face hazardous winter conditions Tuesday as mixed precipitation, ice accumulation, and strong winds sweep across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Grand Forks, multiple Winter Weather Advisories have been issued from 6 a.m. Tuesday through early Wednesday, affecting communities from Fargo, Moorhead, Wahpeton, Breckenridge, Lisbon, Valley City, and Elbow Lake, north toward Bemidji, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, and surrounding counties.

Forecasters expect light snow totals ranging from 1 to 4 inches, but potentially more disruptive is the predicted ice accumulation of one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch in several counties, including Wilkin, Cass, Ransom, Sargent, Eddy, and Griggs. Farther north, Lake of the Woods, Beltrami, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail, Wadena, and Grant Counties may see a light glaze with pockets of heavier snow.

Across all advisory areas, winds are forecast to gust between 45 and 50 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and sudden drops in visibility—especially in rural, open terrain. NWS officials warn that these conditions could impact both the Tuesday morning and evening commutes, with slick roads, scattered icy patches, and the potential for downed tree branches.

Residents should expect rapidly changing road conditions, particularly as mixed precipitation transitions to snow in some areas. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor updates from each state’s 511 travel information system.

Advisories in northern Minnesota and parts of eastern North Dakota will continue into early Wednesday morning as scattered snow and blowing snow persist overnight.
