GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Residents across eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota should prepare for their first brush with frost as temperatures fall sharply by midweek. Lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s Wednesday night into Thursday morning, raising the risk of patchy frost in rural and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the sharp cool-down will follow a stretch of above-normal warmth early this week. The biggest temperature drop is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, when clear skies and calm winds could allow readings to plunge below 36 degrees in cities such as Bemidji, Roseau, Langdon, and Baudette.
Drivers heading out early Thursday may encounter frost on windshields, while gardeners should take steps to protect late-season plants. Farmers in northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota may also see impacts to sensitive crops if frost develops.
Conditions stay chilly through the weekend, with another cold night possible Friday into Saturday. Daytime highs will only recover into the upper 50s and low 60s by Thursday before moderating slightly into Sunday.
