Minneapolis, Minnesota – Nearly 2 million residents across the Twin Cities are under a flash flood warning through 7:45 p.m. CDT Wednesday as intense storms dump up to 2 inches of rain per hour, overwhelming roads and storm drains in parts of Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities office, radar indicated flash flooding is either underway or expected imminently in Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Carver, and Washington counties. Areas at risk include Brooklyn Park, Eden Prairie, Maplewood, White Bear Lake, and Mound.

Drivers should avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and never attempt to cross flooded roads. Water can rise quickly in underpasses, low-lying intersections, and poorly drained neighborhoods. Schools, hospitals, and key roadways across the metro are included in the warning zone.

Residents are urged to move to higher ground immediately if flooding is observed nearby. This is the first major flash flood warning of the summer season and could mirror damage seen in past June rain events that led to stalled traffic and emergency rescues.

The warning remains in effect until 7:45 p.m., with additional advisories possible if heavy rainfall continues into the evening hours.
