Minneapolis, Minnesota – A flash flood warning remains in effect across the Twin Cities through 6:15 p.m. Friday, with the heaviest impacts expected near Saint Paul, Minneapolis, and Maplewood as high water continues to overwhelm streets and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, nearly 772,000 residents are affected by the warning, including dozens of schools and hospitals along the Mississippi River corridor. Officials urge anyone in the impacted zone to avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, which can rise quickly and obscure life-threatening hazards like washed-out roads or open manholes.

Flooding has been reported along the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, stretching into parts of West Saint Paul and surrounding neighborhoods. Motorists are advised to avoid underpasses, while outdoor events may need to be postponed or relocated due to ground saturation and runoff concerns.

Emergency managers recommend moving to higher ground immediately if flooding begins in your area. Local agencies continue monitoring storm drains and riverbanks for additional flash flood risk through this evening.

Further warnings could be issued if rainfall persists or rivers begin breaching capacity heading into Saturday.
