Duluth, Minnesota – Red Flag Warnings will grip much of northeast Minnesota Tuesday as critical fire weather conditions move in with little relief expected. Winds could gust up to 35 mph and humidity may plummet to just 13% by mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the Red Flag Warning runs from noon to 9 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, May 13, affecting St. Louis, Carlton, Cass, Itasca, and surrounding counties. Conditions will be ripe for fast-spreading wildfires. Any outdoor flames could quickly become uncontrollable. Avoid all burning, and stay alert if traveling near fire-prone areas, especially along Highway 53 and forest-adjacent routes.

Gusty southerly winds will remain a concern through Tuesday night. Breezy, dry weather will persist into Wednesday, with another round of near-critical fire conditions possible, particularly in open and grassy areas of central and northeast Minnesota.

By Thursday, the region shifts into a wetter pattern. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, especially by evening. The rain brings relief from fire danger but may lead to slick roads late Thursday night into Friday morning.
