Duluth, MN – Minnesota’s first major fall cold snap grips the Northland today, bringing a Freeze Warning for much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. The National Weather Service in Duluth warns that temperatures could fall as low as 29°F from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions could damage crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing if left unprotected. Homeowners should cover tender plants, disconnect hoses, and prepare for icy conditions early Wednesday.

The warning covers several counties, including St. Louis, Itasca, Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, and Lake, as well as Douglas, Ashland, and Bayfield in Wisconsin. Commuters along U.S. Highway 53 and I-35 should expect slick spots early Wednesday.

By Wednesday afternoon, sunshine will return, offering highs near 57°F. Thursday looks milder, reaching 62°F, with a slight chance of evening showers. Friday and Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies and comfortable highs in the mid-60s, ideal for pumpkin patch visits or early Halloween decorating.

Sunday could see scattered showers as another cold front approaches, reminding residents that October’s true chill is settling in.

Take precautions tonight—cover your plants, check your pipes, and drive carefully on rural roads Wednesday morning.
