Duluth, MN – Bitter cold and dangerously low wind chills are expected to grip northeastern Minnesota this weekend, with a high of just -7°F forecast for Sunday. Residents along the North Shore of Lake Superior should prepare for frigid conditions and wind chills that could drop to -30°F or lower.

According to the National Weather Service, a Gale Warning remains in effect for western Lake Superior through Saturday morning, with gusts up to 50 mph creating hazardous travel conditions and potential frostbite risks. Saturday will see a high near 4°F, accompanied by northwest winds of 20-25 mph, making it feel much colder.

Sunday will bring even harsher conditions as temperatures struggle to rise above -7°F. Wind gusts up to 25 mph will push wind chills to dangerously low levels. Overnight, the temperature will plummet to around -16°F, with wind chills as low as -35°F expected.

Travelers along I-35 and surrounding highways should be prepared for icy roadways and reduced visibility due to blowing snow. Outdoor activities are strongly discouraged, as frostbite can occur in minutes in these conditions. Residents are urged to check heating systems, stock emergency supplies, and limit outdoor exposure.

Looking ahead to Monday, temperatures will remain frigid with highs near -8°F and lows dropping to -18°F. The bitter cold is expected to persist into early next week.
