Minnesota – A dense gray haze hangs low over Minneapolis–St. Paul this morning, muting the sunrise as temperatures hover near 18°F and patchy freezing fog glazes car hoods and side streets. The Arctic chill has settled in — and it’s not leaving anytime soon.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, skies will stay mostly cloudy through the morning, with highs struggling to reach the low 20s. Freezing fog between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. may create slick patches on untreated surfaces and low visibility across the metro’s northern suburbs.

By late day, the next clipper system approaches from the northwest, bringing a 40% chance of light snow Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Accumulations should stay under an inch, but roads may turn slick again by the morning commute.

Midweek brings a touch of sun but little warmth — highs near 20°F Wednesday, lows dipping into the single digits Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday stay mostly clear, but wind chills could drop below zero early Friday as a fresh push of cold air moves in.

Drivers should plan extra travel time during morning fog periods and watch for icy bridge decks after sunset. The first week of December is reminding Minnesotans: winter is officially here, and it’s bringing its full bite.
