Duluth, MN – Northeast Minnesota braces for dangerously cold temperatures this weekend, with wind chills as low as -45°F expected through Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions against frostbite, which can occur on exposed skin in just 10 minutes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday, transitioning into an Extreme Cold Warning from Saturday evening through noon Tuesday. Wind chills will drop to life-threatening levels, especially during the night and early morning hours.
Temperatures will hover near 4°F Saturday, falling to -17°F overnight. Sunday brings highs of -5°F with occasional flurries and blustery winds, creating hazardous conditions on US-2 and WI-13. Snow showers may leave roads slippery, particularly in areas like Douglas and Iron counties.
By Monday, highs will climb to -6°F, though wind chills will remain severe. Conditions improve slightly by Tuesday, with highs near -1°F and lighter winds.
Residents are advised to layer up with hats, gloves, and face masks. Pets should be brought indoors, and water pipes must be insulated to prevent freezing. Keep vehicle batteries charged and avoid unnecessary travel.
