Twin Cities, MN – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather warning for the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, forecasting up to 6 inches of rain and high heat indices over the next week. Multiple rounds of heavy rain are expected to begin Saturday, with localized flooding likely.

According to the NWS, 1-2 inches of rain are forecasted for Saturday alone, accompanied by damaging winds and large hail. The storm system will persist through Monday, increasing the risk of flash flooding and rising river levels. In some areas, precipitation totals could exceed 6 inches by week’s end.

Adding to the weather concerns, an excessive heat watch has been issued for Sunday. Temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 80s to low 90s, with heat indices ranging from 97 to 102 degrees. The combination of high humidity and soaring temperatures will create hazardous conditions, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Residents are urged to stay informed by monitoring local weather updates and taking necessary precautions. The NWS advises securing outdoor items, preparing for potential power outages, and avoiding flooded areas. The public is also reminded to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

With severe weather on the horizon, Minnesota communities are preparing for a challenging week ahead.
