Duluth, Minn. – Sub-freezing temperatures will grip much of northern Minnesota through Tuesday morning, bringing widespread frost and freeze threats to the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a freeze is expected late Sunday into Monday, with overnight lows falling into the upper 20s and low 30s across areas like Hibbing, Grand Rapids, and Ely. A second wave of patchy frost is possible in the Arrowhead region Monday night into early Tuesday, with temperatures again dipping into the 30s.
Cities such as International Falls, Two Harbors, and Silver Bay may see lows ranging from 28°F to 37°F, raising concerns for sensitive plants and unprotected vegetation. Gardeners are urged to cover crops and bring potted plants indoors. Residents using outdoor water systems should take steps to prevent freezing damage.
Roadways are not expected to ice over, but early morning travel could be slowed by reduced visibility from fog and frost in rural areas.
Temperatures will begin to rebound midweek, with daytime highs trending closer to seasonal norms by Thursday. Additional advisories could be issued if frost conditions persist.
