Minneapolis, MN – Travelers and holiday planners in Minnesota should prepare for a damp Christmas and a rainy finish to the week. Mild temperatures and patchy fog could complicate road conditions on Thursday and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service, Christmas Day will see overcast skies with highs near 33°F and patchy fog, particularly in western Minnesota. Overnight temperatures will dip to around 31°F, with fog lingering into Thursday morning. A slight chance of rain develops Thursday afternoon, increasing toward evening as temperatures rise to 37°F.

Rain becomes more widespread Thursday night into Friday, with up to 0.25 inches of rainfall possible. Highs Friday will climb to 41°F, making travel on main highways such as I-94 and I-35 potentially slick due to wet conditions and fog. Drivers are encouraged to use extra caution and allow for additional travel time.

The weekend forecast shows continued mild weather with Saturday highs near 40°F and a 40% chance of rain. Nighttime temperatures will remain above freezing, hovering around 31°F. Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy, providing a brief break from precipitation.

For those heading out for post-Christmas errands or gatherings, monitoring updated forecasts and road conditions will be essential. Fog, combined with rain and fluctuating temperatures, may lead to reduced visibility and slower travel times through the weekend.
