Duluth, MN – Dangerous cold and lake-effect snow will continue to impact northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin through Tuesday, creating hazardous conditions. Wind chills as low as -50°F and up to 6 inches of snow are expected in localized areas, including along U.S. Highway 2 and the Bayfield Peninsula.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until Tuesday at noon, impacting multiple counties, including St. Louis, Lake, and Cook in Minnesota. Frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin. Light snow showers will persist, with localized snowfall of 4 to 6 inches likely along the Bayfield Peninsula due to lake-effect activity.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure and dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks. Motorists should be cautious on snow-covered roads, particularly along U.S. Highway 2, where visibility may be reduced. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.
The five-day forecast calls for subzero temperatures to dominate through Tuesday. Monday night will see lows near -20°F in Duluth, with wind chills reaching -40°F. Conditions improve slightly Wednesday, with highs nearing 19°F but remaining below freezing.
