Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota is preparing for more measurable snowfall of the season just as Thanksgiving travel kicks off. A fast-moving weather system will bring snow Sunday night into Monday, with potential impacts along I-35 and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin late Sunday evening, possibly accumulating 2 to 4 inches in some areas by Monday morning. As temperatures drop into the 20s, untreated roads will become slippery, making the Monday morning commute hazardous. Drivers are advised to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time.

The cold snap will linger throughout the week. Saturday will remain dry but breezy, with a high near 37°F. Sunday begins with partly cloudy skies before snow moves in late in the evening. By Monday, highs will drop to 32°F, with wind gusts of up to 25 mph adding to the chill factor.

Thanksgiving Day itself is expected to be sunny but cold, with highs only reaching 29°F in Duluth and surrounding areas. While no additional snowfall is predicted midweek, cold and blustery conditions will persist.

Motorists traveling for the holiday are encouraged to prepare emergency kits, check vehicle tires, and monitor updates on road conditions through Minnesota 511. Travelers using I-35 and other major routes should anticipate delays during snowy conditions Sunday night into Monday morning.
