Minnesota – Unseasonably warm weather begins the week in Minnesota, but residents should prepare for a major shift by midweek. Monday and Tuesday will bring near-record temperatures, hitting highs of up to 80°F in the Twin Cities. However, a powerful cold front is expected late Tuesday, bringing rain and thunderstorms overnight into Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, the cold front will bring widespread showers and a significant drop in temperatures, with highs plummeting by Wednesday to around 45-70°F and overnight lows dipping to 30-40°F. The heaviest rain and possible thunderstorms are likely to occur between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, affecting morning commutes. Rainfall may range from a quarter to a half inch, with isolated thunderstorms adding higher localized totals.

Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and plan for reduced visibility and slick roads, particularly during peak commute hours Wednesday morning. Travel along major roadways, such as Interstate 94 and Interstate 35, may be impacted by sudden downpours and gusty winds. Drivers are advised to slow down and maintain safe following distances.

Temperatures will remain cooler through the remainder of the week, with highs on Thursday reaching only the upper 40s. Another round of showers is expected to arrive by Wednesday night, bringing a 50% chance of precipitation through Thursday afternoon. By Friday, temperatures will be near 54°F, offering a brief respite before additional cooling over the weekend.
