Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents are urged to prepare for dangerous wind chills as low as -35°F today, creating a significant frostbite risk. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Thursday, with warnings of frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values will remain below zero through Friday due to gusty winds and arctic temperatures. A Wind Advisory is also in place for Coastal Cook County, where winds could reach 55 mph. Residents in affected areas, including Duluth, Ely, and Grand Marais, should limit outdoor exposure and dress in warm, layered clothing to prevent hypothermia.

The forecast calls for improving conditions heading into the weekend. Highs on Friday will reach the teens before climbing into the 30s by Sunday. A chance of light snow or a wintry mix is expected Saturday for parts of the Northland, including along Highway 61 and areas near Silver Bay. While snowfall is expected to remain light, slippery road conditions are possible.

Looking ahead, a warming trend will bring relief by Monday, with daytime highs surpassing freezing for the first time this week.

Stay informed by checking updates from the National Weather Service and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Avoid travel on untreated roads during peak cold periods and monitor for additional advisories through the weekend.
