Minnesota residents should prepare for frigid weather this week as temperatures plummet, bringing the first sub-zero morning Thursday. The Twin Cities area will experience scattered snow showers starting Monday night, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures midweek.
According to the National Weather Service, light flurries and scattered snow showers will move through the region Monday and Tuesday, with minor accumulations expected. Windy conditions Monday afternoon could create hazardous driving on major roadways like I-94 and I-35. Temperatures are forecast to drop drastically, with highs in the low teens Wednesday and single digits Thursday. Overnight lows could reach -10°F in some areas.
Residents are advised to take precautions now, including winterizing vehicles and dressing in layers to prevent frostbite. With wind chills likely falling below zero, the National Weather Service warns of increased risk for hypothermia if outdoors for extended periods.
Monday will begin with breezy conditions and highs near 39°F before falling into the 15–20°F range by night. By Wednesday, northwest winds will make outdoor activities difficult, with temperatures struggling to reach 12°F. The coldest day will be Thursday, with highs only around 9°F and lows dipping to -5°F or colder.
As conditions worsen, drivers should monitor local forecasts and prepare for icy roads. Limited snow accumulation could mask slick spots during commutes. Plan ahead for delays or alternate routes, especially on elevated roadways like bridges and ramps.
