Duluth, MN – A strong spring storm system is expected to bring heavy snow, blowing winds, and a chance of freezing rain to northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin beginning Tuesday afternoon and lasting into early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, impactful snow accumulations are likely, particularly along the North Shore and into northwest Wisconsin. Snowfall chances exceed 70% in many areas, with Two Harbors and Grand Marais facing the highest probability of receiving 6 inches or more. The heaviest snowfall is projected from Tuesday night into Wednesday.
The risk of ice accumulation is also notable, especially in northwest Wisconsin, where a 15–35% chance of freezing rain could affect areas like Hayward, Spooner, and Park Falls from Tuesday night through Wednesday evening.
The combination of snow and freezing rain will likely create hazardous travel conditions, with blowing snow reducing visibility on rural and regional highways. Motorists are advised to delay non-essential travel and prepare vehicles with winter emergency kits.
Wind gusts may compound issues, especially in exposed areas, potentially leading to localized power outages.
Residents should monitor local updates and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions through early Thursday.
