Minneapolis, Minn. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue across central and southern Minnesota overnight into Monday morning, creating a risk for localized flooding and dangerous travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, storms will persist through early Monday with the strongest cells expected over far southern Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin. A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Twin Cities until 10 a.m., with rainfall totals approaching an inch or more in some areas. Gusty winds are also possible with stronger storms.

Localized flooding could impact low-lying roadways, particularly in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro and along portions of I-35 and I-94. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and allow extra time for the Monday morning commute. Emergency officials advise charging devices and securing outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

Conditions are expected to improve later Monday as storms taper off, giving way to drier weather through midweek. The National Weather Service reports no hazardous weather expected from Tuesday through Sunday, with calmer conditions and mostly sunny skies ahead.

Residents should continue monitoring local alerts through Monday morning as additional advisories could be issued.
