Minneapolis, Minnesota – A dangerous wave of heat will grip the Twin Cities metro Friday, with the heat index expected to reach 100 degrees between noon and 10 p.m., prompting a Heat Advisory across Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott, and Dakota counties. The National Weather Service warns that high temperatures and humidity could quickly lead to heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable residents without access to air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, conditions will intensify through Friday afternoon and evening, impacting major cities including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Blaine, Chaska, Hastings, and Shakopee. Health officials urge residents to drink water, limit outdoor activities, and check on family or neighbors who may need help coping with the heat.

Cooling centers are open across the region. Anyone lacking air conditioning can call 211 or visit weather.gov/mpx/coolingcenters for locations. Emergency management teams and local agencies remain on alert as high humidity could worsen heat risks on roadways, at bus stops, and for outdoor workers.

This heat advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Friday, with the possibility of additional warnings if conditions persist. Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts for updates and stay prepared for further heat through the weekend.
