Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN – A mild and breezy stretch of weather will continue across the Twin Cities on Tuesday before a quick-moving system brings rain, light snow, and sharply colder temperatures late Wednesday night into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service office in the Twin Cities, Tuesday will be partly cloudy, mild, and breezy, with high temperatures ranging from 35 to 40 degrees across much of central and southern Minnesota. Dry conditions are expected through most of the day, keeping travel impacts minimal.
Conditions remain similar on Wednesday, with highs again reaching the mid-30s to near 40 degrees. Winds will increase during the day, and rain is expected to move in Wednesday evening as a clipper system approaches the region.
Forecasters say the rain will transition to a wintry mix and then light snow by early Thursday morning, including during the Thursday morning commute. Snow accumulations are expected to be light, generally less than 1 inch, with the highest amounts north of the Twin Cities.
Despite limited snowfall, impacts may increase as temperatures rapidly fall Thursday. Highs are expected to drop into the 20s to mid-30s, and gusty winds will make conditions feel colder. The quick transition raises concerns for slick roads, especially if rain freezes before drying.
By Thursday afternoon, precipitation is expected to end, with dry but sharply colder air settling in. Temperatures are forecast to rebound by Friday and continue moderating into the weekend.
The National Weather Service advises drivers to remain cautious during the Thursday morning commute and stay updated as timing details become clearer.
