Minneapolis, Minn. – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger over the Twin Cities through Saturday, bringing the risk of heavy downpours, patchy fog, and slower weekend travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, rain and thunderstorms will redevelop Friday morning and continue on and off through Saturday evening. Precipitation chances sit near 70%, with the strongest storms possible after midday Friday. Some storms may bring locally heavy rainfall, with ponding on roads a concern for commuters across Hennepin and Ramsey counties.
Drivers on Interstates 94 and 35 could encounter reduced visibility from fog late Friday night into Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon, storms are likely again, tapering to scattered showers overnight.
While Sunday looks quieter, forecasters still expect spotty showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening. Patchy fog may return Sunday night into Monday morning, slowing early commutes.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads, charge electronic devices ahead of storm activity, and keep an eye on changing conditions. Additional advisories are possible if stronger storms develop.
