Minnesota wakes up unusually mild for mid-February, but winter is not finished yet. Skies stay mostly clear before sunrise across Minneapolis–St. Paul. Temperatures hover in the mid-40s early this morning, a sharp contrast to typical February chill.

Sunshine dominates today and pushes highs near 51 degrees. Light winds shift northeast this afternoon. It feels more like early April than the heart of winter.

Clouds increase tonight as the pattern turns active. Tuesday brings mostly cloudy skies with highs again near 51 degrees. Winds strengthen from the east, and gusts could top 30 mph by afternoon.

The bigger shift arrives Tuesday night. Rain becomes likely after sunset and continues into early Wednesday. Periods of steady rain may create ponding on roadways. By Wednesday, February 18, temperatures fall into the 40s. A rain-to-snow transition becomes possible Wednesday night as colder air moves in.

Even a light accumulation could create slick spots for the Thursday morning commute, especially on bridges and untreated roads. Highs Thursday drop to the upper 30s. Additional light snow chances linger into Thursday night and Friday.

Looking ahead into President’s Day Week and the 6–10 day outlook, temperatures trend cooler overall. Highs settle back into the 20s and 30s. No major Polar Vortex is signaled, but winter conditions remain possible.
