Minneapolis, Minnesota – A sharp swing in temperatures will hit Minnesota within the next 24 hours, with near-80°F warmth by Monday afternoon quickly giving way to rain and a 20- to 30-degree drop by Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, highs will surge into the mid to upper 70s by 3 p.m. Monday across much of southern and eastern Minnesota, including Minneapolis and St. Paul, while central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin stay closer to 60°F. Winds that fueled critical fire conditions will ease by late evening Sunday, reducing immediate wildfire risk.

In the Twin Cities metro, Monday’s warmth could impact afternoon commutes with increased road traffic and outdoor activity, especially along I-94 and I-35 corridors. By early Tuesday morning, rain showers will move in, with temperatures falling into the 40s, creating slick roads and reduced visibility during the morning drive.

Northern Minnesota communities will see a sharper cooldown first, while southern Minnesota feel the drop closer to sunrise Tuesday. Residents should prepare by layering clothing, securing outdoor items overnight, and allowing extra travel time Tuesday morning.

Cooler air holds through midweek, with more stable conditions returning by Wednesday afternoon. Additional updates or advisories could be issued as the rain system develops.
