Minneapolis, Minn. – Minnesotans will enjoy one last taste of summer Monday before a sharp shift in the weather pattern brings rain, storms, and a fall-like chill. The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says Monday will stay mostly dry and seasonably mild, but by Tuesday afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will spread across much of the state.
According to the weather service, storm chances linger through Wednesday, with the potential for heavy downpours during the evening commute. A stronger push of cool Canadian air follows the rain, sending temperatures tumbling. Highs in the 70s Monday will slide into the 60s Tuesday, before bottoming out in the 50s by Thursday. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s in parts of central and southern Minnesota, making for the chilliest stretch since spring.
The cool-down will be noticeable across the Twin Cities, Rochester, and St. Cloud, where residents may need jackets and hoodies by midweek. Drivers should also plan for wet roads and slower commutes during the Tuesday-Wednesday storm window.
Rain chances taper late Wednesday, but the cooler air will stick around through the end of the week. Additional advisories may be issued if storms strengthen Tuesday afternoon.
