MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Drivers across Minnesota should brace for patchy fog early Thursday, especially along I-94 and other major corridors. Visibility may quickly drop near sunrise, creating dangerous travel conditions for morning commuters across the Twin Cities and into western Wisconsin.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, dense fog is most likely to form in eastern Minnesota counties, including Washington, Anoka, and Ramsey, and extend into western Wisconsin. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low beams, and allow extra space on the roads until the fog clears.

Once the fog lifts, Minnesota can expect a stretch of pleasant early fall weather. Highs will climb into the upper 70s by Saturday and Sunday, with abundant sunshine across most of the state. Winds will remain light through the weekend, making outdoor plans ideal for the final days of September and the start of October.

Western and southern Minnesota will also share in the sunshine, though river valleys and low-lying areas may see repeated fog each morning through Friday. Farmers and early risers should plan for reduced visibility before mid-morning.

Looking ahead to the first week of October, temperatures are expected to remain mild, holding in the upper 70s with no frost risk yet. While this signals an extended taste of fall warmth, forecasters note cooler, more seasonal air may arrive deeper into October.

Residents should stay alert for additional fog advisories through Friday. Clearer skies and warmer afternoons will dominate by the weekend, providing one of the most comfortable stretches of early fall.
