Minneapolis, Minn. – Thick fog is expected to slow commutes across central and southern Minnesota through Thursday morning, with visibility plunging to a quarter mile in spots. Drivers along I-94, Highway 52, and other major routes should prepare for sudden low-visibility conditions during the early travel hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, fog will develop in waves across central Minnesota and into western Wisconsin through Thursday, September 25. Pockets of dense fog could linger until mid-morning each day, especially in valleys and near rivers. Reduced visibility may create dangerous driving conditions, and transportation officials advise slowing down, using headlights, and allowing extra space between vehicles.

After the fog clears, skies will gradually brighten, bringing mostly sunny afternoons through late week. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s by Thursday and reach near 80 on Friday, making for a warm start to fall. Winds will stay light, shifting from northeast to south by the weekend.

By Saturday, conditions remain pleasant, with highs in the mid-70s and clear skies. Cooler nights will return next week, but forecasters see no immediate threat of frost. Still, early fall patterns hint at colder air arriving by early October, a reminder that winter is not far behind.

Travelers and residents should monitor updates as advisories may expand if fog thickens. More alerts could be issued later this week if visibility worsens.
