MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Drivers across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin could face hazardous conditions through Friday as dense fog lingers each morning. Commuters should plan for slow travel on major highways including I-94 and I-35, where visibility may shrink to a quarter mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, widespread fog will settle across the region each morning through Friday, September 26. Conditions are most dangerous during the early commute hours, with reduced visibility expected to disrupt travel from St. Cloud to the Twin Cities metro and east into western Wisconsin.
Travelers are urged to allow extra time, use headlights, and avoid high speeds on major roadways. Rural stretches of Highway 52 near Rochester and Highway 169 in southern Minnesota could see the thickest fog pockets. School bus routes and morning traffic will likely experience delays.
By late morning, sunshine should break through and improve driving conditions, but mornings will remain risky through the end of the week. Temperatures climb into the upper 70s and low 80s Thursday and Friday, offering a warm and sunny afternoon stretch once fog clears.
Looking ahead, the first weekend of fall brings mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-70s. The region holds off on early winter chills for now, but forecasters suggest colder nights could creep in early October.
Hazardous weather alerts remain in place for morning hours through Friday. Drivers should expect slowdowns and remain alert on the roads.
