Minneapolis, MN – A broad Fall snow system will push into the Twin Cities after midnight, bringing several rounds of light to moderate snow and increasingly slick roads from early Saturday through Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen office, a Winter Weather Advisory covers much of central and eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, including Hennepin, Ramsey, Washington, Wright, Meeker, Kandiyohi, McLeod, Carver, Scott, Dakota, St. Croix, Dunn, Chippewa, Pierce, Pepin, and Eau Claire counties. Totals will vary widely, from 1 to 3 inches across the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro to 3 to 5 inches in Pierce, Pepin, and Eau Claire counties. Snow begins in western counties around midnight and spreads eastward by sunrise.
According to MnDOT, road crews expect deteriorating conditions on I-94, I-35W, I-35E, US-169, and MN-212 as early accumulation coats untreated pavement. Bridges and overpasses could glaze first, especially before dawn when temperatures dip into the 20s. Drivers are urged to slow down, avoid abrupt stops, and check 511mn.org for real-time conditions. Wisconsin travelers should monitor 511wi.gov, especially around Hudson and Eau Claire where higher totals are expected.
According to county emergency managers in Washington and Dakota counties, minor delays are possible for early weekend events if snow rates increase during the morning. Light winds will limit blowing snow early, but brief reductions in visibility may occur during steadier bursts. Residents should charge phones, top off fuel tanks, and clear walkways periodically to prevent refreezing.
Snow tapers late Saturday night, but lingering slick patches may persist into early Sunday.
