Minneapolis, MN – Areas of smoke will drift over the Twin Cities Wednesday morning, cutting visibility and reducing air quality for much of the day. Sensitive groups, including those with asthma or heart conditions, may need to limit time outdoors until skies begin clearing late Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, smoke will be most noticeable between 10 a.m. and noon, with lingering haze through the afternoon. Winds will remain light, meaning the smoke could settle in low-lying areas, particularly along the Mississippi River valley and near busy roadways.

Drivers should be prepared for reduced visibility during the morning commute, especially along I-94, I-35, and Highway 169. Outdoor activities such as youth sports, festivals, and construction work may need adjustments to reduce exposure. Residents are advised to keep windows closed and use air filtration where possible.

Conditions are expected to improve by Thursday, when southerly winds will help push smoke out of the metro. Another round of scattered thunderstorms may develop Thursday afternoon, bringing brief cooling before warmer, humid air returns Friday.
