Minneapolis, Minnesota – Scattered storms are set to push across Minnesota Thursday night into Friday morning, bringing the threat of damaging winds and large hail to parts of the state as a cold front moves east.

According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, a Level 1 marginal risk for severe weather covers much of central and eastern Minnesota late Thursday into early Friday. Storms will develop in western Minnesota this evening and move eastward overnight, with the greatest risks being isolated severe wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Cities including Mankato, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities metro could see storm activity between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Friday. Commuters in Duluth and areas along I-35 should be alert for wet roads and minor wind damage during the Friday morning drive. Though the severe threat is low, a few storms may intensify quickly overnight.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, remain weather-aware, and have multiple ways to receive alerts overnight. Stronger storms may briefly impact power lines or down tree limbs, especially in rural areas.

Storm activity is expected to taper off by mid-morning Friday, but updates may follow if additional threats develop.
