Minneapolis, Minn. – One more cold day will grip the Twin Cities before a steady warmup sends temperatures into the 40s and 50s this week, along with a chance of rain Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Sunday will remain chilly, with highs only reaching the 20s to near 30 degrees across Minneapolis and St. Paul. Overnight lows will dip into the teens and lower 20s, creating refreeze concerns on untreated roads and bridges along I-94, I-35W and I-694 by early Monday morning.
A noticeable warmup begins Monday as highs climb into the upper 30s and lower 40s under partly sunny skies. Southerly winds will help moderate temperatures, setting the stage for a chance of rain developing Monday night, particularly across southern Minnesota.
Light rain may spread into areas along I-35 and US-52 late Monday evening and continue into early Tuesday. While widespread flooding is not expected, wet roads and reduced visibility could affect the Tuesday morning commute in Rochester, Mankato and the southern Twin Cities metro.
Temperatures continue trending upward through midweek, with highs reaching the mid-40s to lower 50s by Wednesday afternoon. Snowpack across the region will gradually melt, possibly leading to ponding in low-lying areas.
Drivers should remain alert for icy patches early Monday and then prepare for wet conditions Monday night into Tuesday. The overall pattern signals a shift toward milder, more springlike weather across Minnesota as March gets underway.
