Minneapolis, Minnesota – Drivers across the Twin Cities should prepare for deteriorating road conditions this weekend as light snow, strong winds, and dangerous cold combine to create travel hazards.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, flurries and breezy conditions are expected today, with blowing snow possible at times, especially on open roadways. While accumulations today will be minimal, reduced visibility could briefly affect travel along Interstates 94, 35W, and Highway 52.

A more impactful period arrives Sunday, when light snow develops across eastern and western Minnesota, including the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro. Snow totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible, but strong winds will be the main concern. Gusty conditions may cause blowing and drifting snow, leading to reduced visibility and slick conditions on untreated roads, bridges, and ramps. Travel conditions could worsen quickly during heavier snow bursts Sunday afternoon and evening.

By Sunday night, much colder air moves in, with wind chills dropping as low as 20 to 30 degrees below zero. Any moisture on roadways is likely to refreeze, creating icy conditions into early Monday morning.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel Sunday night if possible. Additional advisories may be issued as winds strengthen and colder air settles into the region.
