Minneapolis, Minnesota – A brief taste of cooler air is fading quickly across the Twin Cities as another January thaw takes hold, bringing milder temperatures and changing road conditions through the start of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, warmer air moves back into Minnesota today and continues into Monday and Tuesday, allowing temperatures to rebound well above normal for mid-January. Highs today will range from the mid-20s to mid-30s under a mix of sun and clouds, setting the stage for even warmer conditions early this week.

Monday brings highs climbing into the mid-30s to mid-40s across the metro, with a chance for rain or a rain-snow mix developing late at night. By Tuesday, precipitation ends early, and highs surge into the 40s and near 50 in parts of the Twin Cities, making it one of the mildest days so far this winter. Melting snow and slushy spots are possible on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots during the afternoon hours.

The warm-up will be short-lived. Cooler air returns Wednesday with breezy conditions and highs dropping back into the 20s. By Thursday and Friday, unsettled weather moves back into the region with chances for light snow. While snowfall amounts look limited at this time, periodic slick spots could develop during the morning and evening commute.

Drivers should be cautious of refreezing at night as temperatures drop back below freezing after sunset, especially where snowmelt occurs during the day. Residents are also encouraged to clear storm drains to reduce standing water ahead of colder weather.

Mild conditions hold through Tuesday before winter reasserts itself midweek. Additional updates will follow as late-week snow chances become clearer.
