Minneapolis, Minnesota – Periods of light snow combined with gusty winds are expected to reduce visibility and impact travel across the Twin Cities today.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, light snow is slowly moving eastward this morning and is expected to continue on and off throughout the day. Most areas, including Minneapolis, are forecast to see a trace to less than one inch of total snowfall.
Despite the low accumulation, forecasters warn that blustery northwest winds combined with falling snow could lead to reduced visibility and impaired travel conditions, especially during heavier snow showers. The greatest impacts are expected during periods when snow and wind overlap.
Snowfall amounts are forecast to remain light through early Saturday morning, with totals staying under one inch through about 6 a.m. Saturday. However, road conditions may still deteriorate quickly during brief bursts of snow, particularly on untreated streets, bridges, and highways.
The National Weather Service emphasized that visibility reductions, not snowfall totals, will be the primary concern. Drivers may encounter sudden changes in conditions, including areas of blowing snow that make it difficult to see ahead.
These conditions are especially relevant for commuters, delivery drivers, and students, as travel may be slower than usual throughout the day.
Residents are advised to use caution while driving, allow extra travel time, and continue monitoring updates from the National Weather Service as conditions evolve.
