Minneapolis, Minnesota – Dangerously hot and humid conditions are gripping the Twin Cities metro Tuesday, with heat index values climbing as high as 98° and lingering through 8 p.m., raising the risk of heat-related illness across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Washington, Scott, Carver, and Dakota counties. Residents in cities like Minneapolis, St. Paul, Blaine, and Hastings are urged to stay indoors, hydrate frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
Afternoon activities could become hazardous as elevated humidity and temperatures combine to create oppressive conditions. Metro Transit remains operational, but cooling centers have opened in Minneapolis and St. Paul to assist those without access to air conditioning.
Health officials recommend avoiding strenuous activity during peak hours, wearing light-colored clothing, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. Those working outdoors, especially in construction or delivery, should take frequent breaks in the shade.
While storms are not expected Tuesday, a cooler air mass may bring some relief by midweek.
Warnings remain in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Additional alerts are possible if heat persists into Wednesday.
