Milwaukee, WI – Strong storms are moving across southeast Wisconsin this afternoon, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 6 p.m. Monday for Milwaukee and surrounding counties. Residents in Kenosha, Racine, Waukesha, Walworth, Washington, and Ozaukee should prepare for damaging winds, heavy rain, and hail as the line of storms continues to develop.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, scattered thunderstorms are expected to strengthen through late afternoon, bringing the risk of 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to an inch in diameter. Lightning strikes may cause isolated power outages, especially in Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha where the storms are most concentrated.
Travel along I-94 from Milwaukee to Kenosha could be impacted by sudden downpours, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions during the evening commute. Outdoor events in Waukesha and Lake Geneva are also at risk for disruptions. Emergency management officials recommend securing loose outdoor items and avoiding unnecessary travel until storms pass.
The thunderstorm threat is expected to diminish by early evening, but additional storm chances remain possible through midweek. More advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
