Milwaukee, WI – Drivers across southern Wisconsin could encounter slick roads before sunrise Wednesday as a quick burst of light snow moves through overnight, followed by a brief icing risk during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, 1 to 2 inches of light, powdery snow will develop late Tuesday evening and continue into early Wednesday morning, with the steadiest snowfall expected between about 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. As the system exits, patchy freezing drizzle may develop, creating a light glaze on untreated roads and elevated surfaces.

The highest totals are expected along and west of the Interstate 39 corridor, including Madison and Janesville, while Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine can expect closer to 1 inch. Roads such as I-94, I-43, and Highway 151 could turn slippery, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Commuters should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and keep headlights on during early morning travel. Sidewalks and parking lots may also become slick.

Conditions should gradually improve after midmorning Wednesday as temperatures rise slightly and precipitation ends, but additional advisories could be issued if icing becomes more widespread.
