Wisconsin drivers are watching wet pavement turn slushy as colder air sweeps into Milwaukee this morning. Light drizzle and fog gave way to a rain-to-snow transition moving west to east, and wind gusts are already strengthening.
Travel conditions are deteriorating quickly.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. today. According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust up to 45 mph, especially late morning into early afternoon. Rain will mix with and change to snow, with slushy accumulations most likely west of a Janesville to Fond du Lac line.
On I-94, I-43, and Highway 41, expect reduced visibility in bursts of snow and blowing spray. High-profile vehicles will feel strong crosswinds on elevated ramps and bridges.
Temperatures hover near 39 degrees at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport late this morning but will slowly fall through the 30s. Even minor snow accumulation can turn slick as colder air deepens. This is prime time for flash freezing when moisture refreezes after sunset.
Plan extra time if heading out this afternoon.
Saturday turns partly sunny with a high near 36. Another 30 percent chance of snow develops late Saturday night into Sunday, with highs Sunday near 31. Sunday night drops to around 19 degrees, locking in any untreated moisture.
Monday stays mostly cloudy with a high near 29. Temperatures gradually moderate by midweek, reaching the upper 30s to near 40. Longer-range trends into the 6–10 day period hint at a gradual warming trend and early signs of spring warmth.
Five Day Outlook for Milwaukee:
Saturday: Partly sunny, high 36.
Sunday: Chance of snow, high 31.
Monday: Mostly cloudy, high 29.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, high 38.
Wednesday: Chance of rain and snow, high 39.
