Wisconsin – Headlights glint off damp pavement this morning as temperatures hover near freezing, a setup that can turn risky fast. Patchy black ice may form on untreated roads and bridges early, even where pavement looks merely wet. Conditions improve later today, but another round of travel impacts builds into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, water left on roads may refreeze into early morning hours, especially on secondary streets, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra stopping distance through the morning commute.
Rain arrives later today and continues into tonight, keeping roads wet across Milwaukee County and much of southeast Wisconsin. Highs reach the upper 40s before cooler air filters in. By Friday, showers taper and temperatures slide back into the 40s, setting up a colder transition.
The bigger change arrives Saturday. Rain is expected to mix with snow, then change to snow as temperatures fall. Light accumulations are possible, with one to two inches indicated in parts of the metro area. Snow continues into Saturday night, when lows drop into the low 20s. Gusty winds could reduce visibility at times.
Sunday remains cold and blustery. A few lingering snow showers are possible early, followed by partial clearing. Highs struggle to reach the low 30s, and wind chills stay biting. Any melted snow may refreeze after sunset, keeping slick spots in play.
Plan extra travel time through the weekend, especially late evenings. Keep winter kits in vehicles and watch bridges closely. Seeing slick roads where you are? Let us know what conditions look like.
