Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Sirens will sound across Wisconsin at two specific times Thursday, testing emergency systems and giving residents a critical chance to practice tornado safety plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, the statewide tornado drill is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. Thursday as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week. The drill will include NOAA Weather Radio alerts, social media notifications, and public information statements.

Some communities may also activate outdoor warning sirens and interrupt local TV and radio broadcasts to simulate real warning conditions. Officials say the exercise is designed to help families, schools, and businesses rehearse what to do when severe weather strikes.

Residents are encouraged to identify a safe shelter location, such as a basement or interior room away from windows, and review emergency plans during the drill times.

While no actual severe weather is expected during the test, this statewide exercise comes ahead of peak spring storm season, when tornadoes and severe thunderstorms become more common.

Additional preparedness messaging will continue through the week as Wisconsin enters its most active severe weather period.
