Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Snow and strong winds created hazardous travel conditions across southeast Wisconsin early Monday, with reduced visibility and blowing snow affecting the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan office, snow continued early Monday morning, with pockets of moderate snowfall producing rates up to one-half inch per hour at times. Additional snowfall totals of 1 to 2 inches were expected before snow gradually tapered off later in the morning.

While snowfall intensity was forecast to decrease, strong west to northwest winds remained a significant concern. Forecasters reported wind gusts between 35 and 45 mph, leading to blowing and drifting snow and visibility reductions to 1 mile or less at times.

In Milwaukee, wind gust observations around 40 mph were reported early Monday. Similar conditions were observed across Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Fond du Lac, where snow-covered roads and gusty winds combined to make travel difficult.

The National Weather Service warned that travel impacts were expected through the morning commute, even as snowfall diminished. Blowing snow was expected to persist due to strong winds, particularly in open areas and on east–west roadways.

Additional impacts included freezing temperatures, which may contribute to icy spots on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses. Drivers were urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and remain alert for sudden drops in visibility.

The weather system moved east through the morning hours, with conditions expected to improve gradually later in the day as winds slowly ease.

Commuters, school transportation, and delivery drivers experienced the greatest impacts during early morning travel hours. The National Weather Service encourages residents to monitor road conditions and follow local advisories before heading out.
